What's this "Jelly" thing all about then?

Jelly is a casual coworking event, where freelancers, home workers, contractors and small business owners meet in order to get out of their normal space, meet some new people and work together in a social environment. Jelly is a mixture of work, chat, comparing of ideas, passing on tips and help and maybe sometimes collaboration on the birth of a new project. Jelly is not an out & out networking event, if you want to sit with your headphones in and pound away at the keyboard... that's just fine.

Dates

CamJelly is held weekly at ideaSpace between 1pm & 4pm on Friday afternoons. From around 4pm to 5pm ideaSpace will be sponsoring some cold beers to share a cold one on the terrace overlooking the rolling (well flat actually) Cambridgeshire countryside. So after a long week working in the bedroom, Starbucks or your garden shed when not join us for some coworking and a cold one?

Venue

The venue is ideaSpace . See the map in the bottom right to find you way there. When you get there please check in with reception and tell them you are there for CamJelly at ideaSpace. You will be directed upstairs to ideaSpace (2nd floor). The door is normally open, but if you have any problems please call the ideaSpace office number on 01223 365123.

We use the common room area (the bit with the kitchen and view) for CamJelly... the offices are reserved for paying ideaSpace tenants.

Time

Jelly is a casual event so there’s no expectation people will turn up at the start time and stay till the end. We've set aside 1pm to 4pm, with 4 until 5 for a social beer and chat.

What do you get?

A warm welcome, free coffee, buns (while stocks last), a few tables (with chairs) and, of course, high-speed wireless internet.

Who's it for?

Freelancers, contractors, designers, entrepreneurs, illustrators, engineers, marketers, networkers, photographers, programmers, writers, creatives, home-workers, doers, loafers... anybody who wants a change from working at home, or on their own in a cyber cafe. CamJelly is not just for techies and start-ups... although they are very welcome.

So it's one of those networking things then?

Errmmm... yes and no. If you want to meet some people, do a bit of networking over coffee and a bun that's super. If you just want to put your headphones in and pound away at the keyboard that's also fine. CamJelly is about coworking... not just networking.

CamTechNet

CamTechNet is a Cambridge website which aims to provide free access to information from the Cambridge Technopole community. We believe that information needs to be more easily visible by everyone. Finding a group, an event or a job is not something that should be difficult or require the “right” contacts. But we also believe that there is a need for “spaces” where issues that are relevant to the community can be discussed. We hope that CamTechNet can help CamJelly in the promotion of such a space.

Our big idea is this:

  • If you want to make a difference, we want to help you.
  • If you have an idea you want to pursue, we want to help you.
  • And if you have time, taltents or resources you could offer to help someone else to make a difference, we want to help you.
  • We offer free advice, guidance and mentoring.
  • We provide you with a space to meet and work.
  • Here you can develop your ideas and form links with people who share your goals.
  • This is a working space to help you on your way.
